Here is a brand new in the box Kino Flo BarFly 200. In HD Digital Cinema, the quality of light is more critical than ever. In High Def every detail of on camera talent is rendered clearly on the screen Ð even the imperfections. Where traditional hard light can exaggerate textural details, soft light is generally better for lighting talent in High Def productions because it can subdue those same textures and render a more cosmetic appearance.

The 60A Full Power Transformer/Distro
of our HD Plug & Play Pkg provides 7500 Watts of power
in a single 120v circuit
from the new Honda EU6500i Generator

What makes the BarFly 200s so ideal for HD Digital Cinema? At six feet the BarFly 200 puts out about the same amount of light as a 500W softlight, and draws only two Amps of power. The new BarFlys are compact and controllable lighting sources that can squeeze in to tight spots for difficult shots on location or in the studio. These features make Kino Flo BarFly 200 lights an ideal light source for our HD Plug & Play Pkg. (see below for more details).

When you compare the photometrics of the BarFly 200 to the Diva 200 you realise that Kino Flo packs a lot of soft light into the blade-thin BarFly (The BarFly 200 is only 2" eep, 9" wide and 15" long.) The brighter, smaller, lighter BarFlys deliver more lumens per square inch than any other full-spectrum fluorescent source on the market.

The first thing to note about the BarFly 200 System is that it consists of three components: BarFly Fixture (fig. 1), Mounting Plate (fig. 2), Ballast (fig. 3). It was designed in this manner to allow the greatest flexibility when working on film production where the gaffer and DP are constantly being challenged to light unique locations and problem solve at a moments notice.

Kino Flo also makes available for the BarFly 200 fixtures a number of innovative accessories (below) that enhance their production capabilities for HD Digital Cinema. Accessories include a Snoot, a gel frame, and Honeycomb Louvers.

Snoot (far left), Honey Comb Louver (center left), Gel Frame (center right), & Gel Frame (right)

Honeycomb Louvers are available in 90, 60 and 45 degrees. Swapping louvers provides beam control similar to that of swapping lenses on an HMI Par. In the open face mode (no louver) the fixture has a wide spread - like that of a wide lens on an HMI Par.

Bar Fly 200 light distribution patterns

Open face (far left), with 90 degree Louver (near left), 60 degree Louver (near right), & 45 degree Louver (far right)

The 90 degree Honeycomb Louver concentrates the light and behaves much like a medium lens on a HMI Par. The beam is slightly oval with a hot center. The light tapers off to a nice soft edge.

The 60 degree Honeycomb Louver further concentrates the light into a smaller, tighter soft edged circle - similar to putting a spot lens on an HMI Par.

The 45 degree Honeycomb Louver is the most concentrated circle of light. It would be similar to putting a narrow spot lens on an HMI Par. The spot displays a beautiful soft edge.

So that BarFly 200s can work along side traditional Tungsten and HMI lighting fixtures on set they take Kino Flo newest Quad True Match¨ 3200K & 5500K high color rendering lamps (CRI 95).

The BarFly family is most at home on location and studio sets for television and feature film production, but many in the electronic field production and ENG community have discovered it for a small, two point or three point lighting kit to complement such popular location lighting instruments as the Kino Flo Diva-Lites.

ScreenLight & Grip has developed a special production package we call the "HD Plug & Play Package" (HD P&P Pkg.) For our HD P&P Pkg. we have picked lights that offer both the highest output (lumens/watt) and the most feature style production capability and combined them with proprietary distribution technology we have developed that enhances the production capability of the new Honda Inverter Generators.

Until now, to power HMI lights over 1.2kw or Quartz lights over 2kw required a large diesel movie generator. Movie generators are not only expensive to rent, but they come with hidden costs that usually break the budget of independently funded HD projects. Our HD P&P Pkg. takes advantage of technological advances to power HMI lights up to 6kw or Quartz lights up to 5kw off of wall outlets or the new generation of portable Honda Inverter Generators.

Our 60A Full Power Transformer/Distro provides 7500 Watts of power in a single 120v circuit
from the new Honda EU6500i Generator

By eliminating the need for a tow generator in order to have feature style production capability, our HD P&P Pkg. saves you the expense of not only the generator, but also the added expense of a rental house grip truck and truck driver required to tow it. So that you can still enjoy the amenities of a grip truck, we can set up our HD P&P Pkg. on several Backstage rolling grip carts that you can load onto a Ryder or Penske rental box truck. Use this link for more details about our HD Plug & Play Package.
