Black Limbo Productions

Black limbo offers countless possibilities. The lush elegant look of black limbo is ideal for black box theater, talk shows, game shows, panel discussions, and training seminars like the one pictured here for Fidelity Investment's Verizon 401K plan.

Where sets can at times be distracting, a velvety black background focuses your audience's attention on the actors, panelists, or a presenter with a Power Point presentation. For dramatic presentations, props, such as couches and chairs, can be used to define a familiar space within the void; while set elements, such as doors and windows, can be floated in the background to suggest common settings in the abstract. For talk or game shows, you can quickly and cheaply create a simple set out of black limbo with the flats, columns, and riser platforms that we have here (click here for details). Black limbo is also ideal for multi-camera productions because it is inexpensive to create a simple, but elegant, background for all the cameras.

No studio in town is better equipped for black limbo than ours. Forty feet of black stage curtain along the right wall gives you black limbo at no additional charge. Paint our 70 ft., three wall, wrap-a-around hard cyc and you have 180 degrees of deep black background to shoot against. For large multi-camera shoots, with a roving hand-held camera, we can even drape 20x20 solids to give you 360 degrees of black background so that you are assured of never shooting off of black (see picture 3 at left). We can also provide bleacher style seating for up to 80 people in the studio (click here for details).

There is amble room in our 40'x60' studio to set up a multi-camera switcher fly-pack (see pictures 5 & 6 at left), so that your director doesn't have to be removed from the action. Or, if you prefer, you can set up the switching station just outside the studio doors, or in an adjacent client lounge, for more isolation.

We also have a large assortment of lighting instruments - everything from studio super soft lights to a 5'x10' Chimera Soft Box - that are ideal for lighting black limbo. The studio super soft lights are ideal because they give a flattering soft source that is directional. Because they don't spill light onto the background, the way a conventional light through a diffusion frame would, they assure that the background falls off into velvety blackness.

For the Fidelity Investments black limbo production pictured here, we also used a baby 5k fresnel through a medium Chimera bank, with a fabric eggcrate, to create a flattering soft key that was easy to control and cut off the back walls (see picture 4 at left). For the people around the table, we used the 5'x10' Chimera Soft Box to create a uniform super soft key that did not spill onto the walls - assuring that the background would remain velvety black. This super large soft key source also enabled our presenter to move freely around the table and always be in a flattering soft key (see picture 2 at left).

Without a doubt, we have what it takes to do large scale multi-camera black limbo productions the right way. We will be happy to give you a competitive price for your next black limbo production.
